Architect: James Carpenter Design Associates, with Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum

Height: undetermined
Status/Comments: PROPOSED. Original design by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill called for new transit terminal across from current Penn Station, bisecting historic Farley Post Office Building with glass canopy curved like potato chip. New Yorkers quickly nicknamed it "The Chip" proposal. Popular though it was, officials decided it would be too expensive to engineer, so they bid out the station project to the city's two largest developers, who will use a design by James Carpenter meant to evoke the steel pillars and vaulted ceilings of the original Penn Station, this time using glass instead of steel. Named for the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
