Status/Comments: PROPOSED. After tossing around idea of new stadium for years, team stepped up in 2005 with offer of a new ballpark that could also be converted to serve as the main Olympics Stadium if New York won its bid to host the 2012 Summer Games. Plan presented at 11th hour when contentious political battle scuttled plans for a main Olympics/Jets Stadium on the far West side of Manhattan, prompting a warning from the IOC that the city had no chance of landing the Games without a centerpiece stadium venue. Mets would pay $600 million stadium price tag, while city would kick in $100 million for any Olympics conversion costs. Stadium would seat 80,000.
