| Status/Comments: | APPROVED. The quintessential pro-development Chicago story, along with (One Museum Park). Newcomer Mesa Development proposed a 797-foot condo tower in the middle of a downtown historic district in February 2005. Rather than balk incredulously, the city asked them to make it 25 feet taller to accommodate a roof garden for its residents. When the builders presented their final plan to the Commission on Chicago Landmarks in May, they came up with a novel way of avoiding negative public feedback: they faced their renderings away from the audience and toward the commission members, so only the panelists could see them. The Landmarks commission signed off on the project, and the Chicago Plan Commission later unanimously approved the 822-foot tower, which will begin sales in 2006. |
