Hearst Tower

Address: 959 Eighth Ave.
Developer(s): Hearst Corporation
Architect: Sir Norman Foster
Floors: 46

Status/Comments: CONSTRUCTION. Instant icon on Eighth Avenue between West 56th and 57th Streets, characterized by exterior stainless steel "diagrid" bracing composed of interlocking four-story triangles. Tower uses restored  six-story 1928 Hearst Building as its podium, rising over the original structure's atrium courtyard. Was the first major construction project planned in New York City after 9/11, as well as Foster's first significant U.S. endeavor. Lauded by architecture critics.
