| Address: | 396-400 Fifth Ave. |
| Developer(s): | Yitzchak Tessler |
| Architect: | Peter Magill of SOM |
| Floors: | 50 |
| Height: | By some accounts, planned up to 600 feet |
| Status/Comments: | PROPOSED. Long an underling developer for
mega-investor/developer Joseph Chetrit, Tessler has taken over the
project from Chetrit Group to set off on his first independent venture.
Chetrit had commissioned a design by SOM reaching some 600 feet in
height. No word yet on whether Tessler will keep it and proceed or
commission a new design (and if he does, whether it will be more or less
ambitious, height-wise).
SUMMER 2006 UPDATE: THIS PROJECT REPORTEDLY HAS BEEN SOLD FOR ABOUT $200 MILLION TO A NEW DEVELOPER. TESSLER HAD ABANDONED THE SOM DESIGN IN FAVOR OF A CHARLES GWATHMEY SCHEME, FOR WHICH RENDERINGS NEVER WERE RELEASED. NEW YORKERS ANXIOUSLY AWAIT THE NEXT PLANS. |
