| Status/Comments: | BUILT. Originally called the Liggett Building (with address 342 Madison), the massive masonry structure was becoming increasingly obsolete. Macklowe's architects expanded and raised the ceiling in the lobby to create a grand entry. In addition to refacing the building with a shimmering glass curtainwall, they physically repositioned the core and elevator shafts to make better economical use of the floorplates. This allowed them to open up nearly 200,000 extra square feet of usable space within the building, boosting its capacity to 750,000 square feet from 550,000. |
